The ocean serves as the birthplace of all life, where the essential relationship between water and sunlight fueled the emergence of the first organisms. Beneath the waves, the astonishing biodiversity found in coral reefs exemplifies nature's artistry, revealing an ecosystem where every plant and creature contributes to a delicate balance. At the core of this dynamic environment is evolution, a powerful force for survival and adaptation. Take Coral growth as a prime example; it begins as a simple, single-celled organism and transforms through intricate interactions into a variety of forms. This evolution underscores a critical reality: without the tiniest plankton, none of the ocean’s vast life would exist. My oceanography series is a reflective exploration of these themes, capturing the essence of evolution rooted in the appreciation of the marine world. I create pieces inspired by radiolarians and other single-celled organisms, allowing them to evolve into increasingly complex forms across various series. Each work features intricate carvings and diverse textures, presenting them as artifacts from an alien ocean.
